Google’s mobile first index has created quite an upheaval in the marketing world — and for good reason. If Google is taking mobile websites more seriously, shouldn’t you? After all, if you want Google to serve up your content to searchers, you need to know how Google crawls and assesses your website. Otherwise, you fall behind the competition. But don’t panic. If you don’t have a mobile website ready to go now, you’re not doomed to haunt the 100th page of the Google SERPs forever. In fact, Google is slowly rolling out this new strategy, roping in more websites
Remind me: How many chances do you get to make a good impression? Oh, that’s right. One. Just one.If you don’t have the best homepage possible, that first impression becomes negative for website visitors. You lose that first impression forever. Will the visitor come back? Maybe. But you’re playing with fire. There aren’t any new statistics on web design aesthetics and first impressions, but an older study demonstrated that 94 percent of people’s first impressions of a business were related to web design. That’s pretty illustrative. If you have a beautiful, functional, easily navigable homepage, you’re more likely to retain visitors and convince
About Political SEO SEO has been around as long as search engines have existed. We all do know it's keywords, keywords, keywords? WRONG...if you are in politics stick to that and leave Political SEO up to someone who knows keywords are dead. The Growing Need For SEO In Political Campaigns Byrne Hobart It’s going to be a while before we see a political campaign that’s “less digital” than the last one. Budgets keep getting bigger, and investing in online outreach continues to provide candidates with the biggest bang for their buck. But selling voters on politicians and policies isn’t
Have you ever thought, “If we could increase our traffic by X%, digital marketing would become so much easier”?If so, don’t worry—you’re not alone. Many companies choose to funnel a large percentage of their marketing spend into advertising, hoping to scale their business by attracting large numbers of new customers.Unfortunately, paid customer acquisition has become increasingly competitive and expensive.Steve Dennis writes for Forbes, “As it turns out, many online brands attract their first tranche of customers relatively inexpensively, through word of mouth or other low cost strategies. Where things start to get ugly is when these brands have to get
I’ve written a lot about user experience over the years: how to improve user experience, when to implement it, and how to test for it. There’s a reason I cover it so widely, though. It touches every aspect of your business, from SEO to customer service. If you owned a brick-and-mortar store, you would worry about things like end cap displays, signage, aisle navigation, and sales support. Those things matter online, too, except they’re more difficult to observe and track without specialized tools. You can’t enter your customers’ homes and look over their shoulders while they check out your

AWS DeepLens is a video camera that runs deep learning models directly on the device, out in the field. I wrote about the hardware and system software in depth last year; here’s a quick recap: Hardware – 4 megapixel camera (1080P video), 2D microphone array, Intel Atom® Processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, USB and micro HDMI ports, 8 GB of memory for models and code. Software – Ubuntu 16.04, AWS Greengrass Core, device-optimized versions of MXNet and Intel® clDNN library, support for other deep learning frameworks. The response to this AWS re:Invent was immediate and gratifying! Educators, students, and developers signed
What if you could boost email signups by 1,375 percent (or more)? And what if I told you that the secret to those kinds of results lies in something as simple as an exit popup? Craft blogger Nikki McGonigal used to just have an email signup form in her website’s sidebar. Then she added an exit popup. Her conversion rate increased by more than 1,300 percent. Before you dismiss her results as industry related or as an aberration, you should know that businesses in just about every industry use exit popups. How do you get results from exit
Today I’m excited to announce the general availability of Amazon SageMaker Automatic Model Tuning. Automatic Model Tuning eliminates the undifferentiated heavy lifting required to search the hyperparameter space for more accurate models. This feature allows developers and data scientists to save significant time and effort in training and tuning their machine learning models. A Hyperparameter Tuning job launches multiple training jobs, with different hyperparameter combinations, based on the results of completed training jobs. SageMaker trains a “meta” machine learning model, based on Bayesian Optimization, to infer hyperparameter combinations for our training jobs. Let’s dive a little deeper. Model Tuning in
What if the biggest source of your SEO traffic wasn’t from the front page of Google? At least, not the front page exactly. Imagine that there was a backdoor of sorts that could lead to a healthy amount of organic traffic. It’s a completely legal, whitehat SEO backdoor too, so there’s no chance you’ll be penalized. And if you leverage yourself correctly, that organic traffic can naturally turn into a sale for your e-commerce site. If that situation were to exist, it could change the SEO landscape for quite some time. It may surprise you then to learn that our
Figuring out how to convert website visitors into customers requires not only strategy, but extensive testing. You can learn from others what worked for them, but your website audience is unique. That’s probably why you’re reading this article. You want to know the best place to start. Then, you can test different solutions to increase your conversion rate. I’m a big fan of growth hacking. In other words, my goal is always to get the biggest possible results in the shortest possible time frame. That requires aggressive marketing and strategic application of data. You might take a different approach.
We announced Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes and invited customers to take a look at a preview during re:Invent 2017. The Story So FarOur enterprise customers want to bring gigantic, memory-intensive workloads to the AWS Cloud. with a special focus on large-scale production deployments of SAP HANA. Customer acquisition is all about convincing people to buy your products or service. That’s it. But it’s more complicated than you might think. You have to understand how people make the decision to buy (or to not buy). It all starts with lead generation. Unless people in your target audience know about your product or service, trust it, and respect it, you don’t generate any revenue. Then you have to convince those leads to convert on your offers to buy. What makes them tick? And how can you create a customer acquisition strategy that works? We’re going to

The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) project was launched by Google in February of 2016 with the goal of putting mobile performance above everything else on the web. And Google definitely met their goal. AMP powers more than two billion mobile pages and 900,000 different domains. Pages with AMP now load twice as fast as pages without added AMP elements. If you think you can ignore AMP, you’re wrong. AMP has some pretty awesome features and benefits that can take your content creation efforts to the next level. If you don’t take the time to understand or use AMP stories
Generating good lead magnet ideas can become a long process. Simply throwing together an e-book or whitepaper just because other businesses do it would be a mistake. High-converting lead magnet ideas offer so much value that your target audience can’t say no. The more you refine your lead magnet, the more qualified your leads become because you’re offering exactly what those leads need at the exact right time. Lead magnets can work for nearly all audiences, including those of B2B and B2C businesses. They’re powerful because they open the door to further communication between the business and the lead.
We have seen a lot of discussion this past week about the role of Amazon Rekognition in facial recognition, surveillance, and civil liberties, and we wanted to share some thoughts. Amazon Rekognition is a service we announced in 2016. It makes use of new technologies – such as deep learning – and puts them in the hands of developers in an easy-to-use, low-cost way. Since then, we have seen customers use the image and video analysis capabilities of Amazon Rekognition in ways that materially benefit both society (e.g. preventing human trafficking, inhibiting child exploitation, reuniting missing children with their
Even though there is growing wisdom around the best product teams involving design, business and engineering heads from the very start, there is, quite often, still a divide between the design process and business needs. As someone who has both a Business and Design background, I have found it useful in client work to draw from both areas from the very start. Here are a few ways you can design web experiences that are not only user-centric but also conversion-centric. But first: What is wire framing? For the non-design heads, wireframes are essentially a schematic or blueprint that define the
Today, at the AWS Summit in Tokyo we announced a number of updates and new features for Amazon SageMaker. Starting today, SageMaker is available in Asia Pacific (Tokyo)! SageMaker also now supports CloudFormation. A new machine learning framework, Chainer, is now available in the SageMaker Python SDK, in addition to MXNet and Tensorflow. Finally, support for running Chainer models on several devices was added to AWS Greengrass Machine Learning. Amazon SageMaker Chainer Estimator Chainer is a popular, flexible, and intuitive deep learning framework. Chainer networks work on a “Define-by-Run” scheme, where the network topology is defined dynamically via forward computation.

How excited would you be if you doubled the number of leads your marketing campaign was generating in less than a month? What if you found out that the improvement wasn’t an improvement at all, because as lead quantity went up, lead quality was going down? That’s exactly what happened with a campaign I ran once. I can assure you – it’s not fun! One survey of B2B marketers found that their #1 and #2 challenges were generating high quality leads and converting leads into customers: Your Landing Page Conversion Rate Is Only Half Of The Story Converting visitors to
On February 13, 2017, I acquired a keyword tool called Ubersuggest for $120,000. It was generating 117,425 unique visitors per month at the time I purchased it and had 38,700 backlinks from 8,490 referring domains. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the tool, the concept is really simple: You put in a keyword you want to target via SEO or PPC, and it gives you more keyword ideas. That way you can grow your traffic by going after more keywords. Most people thought I bought the tool to just redirect the traffic to
The early days of SEO were like the Wild, Wild West. Blackhat SEO experts were doing everything imaginable to rank their sites on Google. That included keyword stuffing and creating spammy backlinks on a regular basis. And for a time, it totally worked. But these days, those older SEO hacks are long gone. Now we deal with a much more sophisticated algorithm that pushes innocent-sounding updates like Hummingbird and Panda. But as innocent as they sound, they can create some real problems for your ongoing SEO efforts. One of those updates that affected SEO forever is known as Penguin
